The Non-Traditional Student, Promoting Personal Responsibility, Dependent vs Independent Learners, Helping the Student Become an Independent Learner
Learners will engage with Canvas content (reading, videos, quizzes, written responses), meet with the instructor of the course, content faculty for courses they are tutoring, access additional learning and technology platforms (Workday, LRN, Starfish).
Quizzes are embedded throughout each learning module as a “check-in” for understanding. Learners will also have to demonstrate their understanding through application of skills (i.e. setting up Starfish schedule).
For all Canvas courses, the instructor reviews the Ally Course Accessibility Report and makes adjustments accordingly to ensure high scoring of content.
Personal Skills Demonstrated: Course training development, staff training, student-centered instruction, peer mentoring, student engagement, faculty and student relationships, small group management
Course Delivery: Courses are delivered through a Hybrid model. All training content is delivered through Canvas, while tutoring observations and faculty meetings are held in person.
Snapshot of Canvas Modules:
CI 200: Peer Tutoring
The goal of this one credit course is to help students gain the skills to foster independence in the students whom they tutor. As a tutor, it is their role to help students help themselves by stimulating active learning and building students’ confidence in their own abilities. It is hoped that tutors will grow in confidence in their own learning and teaching skills as they move through this course.

CI 210: Small Group Tutoring
This courses prepares tutors to develop successful practices as a peer tutor with a focus on conducting Peer Assisted Study Sessions. Additional focus on the course will be given towards addressing diverse student audiences within the tutoring session, establishing relationships with professors, and handling small tutoring groups.

Shared Tutor Training
During covid, learning centers from across the commonwealth developed a shared tutor training project that provided all campuses access to tutor training topics. My responsibility was creating the SharePoint site that housed all of the training. This SharePoint site is no longer actively maintained but still used as a resource for tutors.
Must have SharePoint account to access
